Must I paint you a picture?

A guy in my office is married to a girl from Argentina. His wife has just left to visit her homeland and family and will be gone for 2 months. He is joining her in 5 weeks. That is right, 5 weeks. She is taking their son and he will be alone and a bachelor for 5 weeks. That is brutal.

I have been thinking how terrible that would be to be without my wife and kids for 5 weeks. One of the great beliefs I have is how important it is that a man gets married. Some have heard of the term "menace to society" and I think it is true. Women do not need to be married nearly as badly as a man does. I have a great friend who is my age, actually to the day, and he is not married yet. Somehow he remains a productive member of society, I don't know how. I shudder to think of the trouble one can get in in just 5 weeks much less 35 years.

My wife was out of town last weekend for like 4 days and even though I had the kids it was just so different for me. There was no constants. It was probably just getting out of routine but I really think I would be a huge piece of crap if I was not married. I don't have any details about how or why but I just think I would.

I would probably be a hermit. I hate answering the phone and I just hate people so much. Who would answer the phone for me? I hate shaving too. I think I have aspirations deep down to be a hobo. I don't want to be a hobo, but I might have a propensity to be a hobo. I am just saying that I am a couple of decisions in my life away from being a hobo.

I like the Billy Bragg line "the most important decisions in life, are made between two people in bed".

Whatever

I have had a very hard time taking the time to post these days. Things are crazy, there is constant craziness all around it seems. But I remembered a funny story today and thought I would break the vicious cycle with it.

So in high school this friend (the lame as a rob one) of mine would visit a friend of his up on north bluff a lot. We had a high school classmate that lived in Veyo. If you are not from around these parts, Veyo is about 20 miles north of downtown St George. If you are familiar with the marathon, it goes through Veyo on it's way down to the finish line in town.

So this classmate of ours came from humble circumstances and would often hitchhike home from football practice up to his home in Veyo. I had seen him several times in the same spot, on North Bluff right past the turn to Sunset that goes out to Santa Clara and Ivins.

So one night my friend is on his way to his friends house and he sees this classmate hitchhiking and he thinks to himself, "I'm going to give this guy a lift". So he pulls over, offers the ride, the guy accepts, and they are on their way.

The only problem for our classmate was that my friend had not planned on driving all the way up to Veyo. So after literally a minute in the vehicle, my friend is turning off Bluff to go to his destination and says to our classmate "ok, there you go. Good luck."

Now none of this was malicious, this friend really thought that taking our classmate exactly 1/2 mile of the 20 in front of him was doing him a favor. I am not sure when it donned on my friend that it was not only a dumb thing to do but also mean if misinterpreted but he knows this now, trust me.

The icing on the cake, however, was after several hours my friend was making his way home and our classmate was still thumbing for a ride. Not only that but he had actually walked back to where he had originally been picked up by my friend because where my friend had dropped him did not have a light post and therefore our classmate could not be seen by on-coming traffic. What a boner move that was.

But one thing I learned from that story is sometimes mean things are not meant to be mean, some people are trying but they are just not that smart. There is a thin line between mean and dumb, very thin indeed.

On a side note, my wife is going out of town this weekend. It reminds me of this post.
