2008 Blogsies

Amazingly I was awarded a Brill-yawn-tey award (emphasis on yawn) from the Mutha of all blogs. This happened about 2 weeks ago so I am lame and occupied with "major life changes" that I will discuss more at a later date.

But this is a great honor in and of itself but especially great knowing from whence it came. Mutha is probably the second most prolific blogger that I know personally behind Design Mom. I remember knowing Design Mom way back when she was just "Design my friend's younger smarter little sister and awesome hair trimmer girl".

Here are the awards that I would like to give out:

Best Blog you should go and read old posts from who Never Posts Anymore: The Executive hopefully you understand sarcasm.

Best Blog about someone with OCD: 2 much of a muchness

Best (and only I read) political Blog: Steve U

Speaking of 1990, I was reading an old journal and reminded myself of my tier system of ranking girls and I had to share it. This is or was a unique system because it was not by looks or other superficial high school thing but was based on how likely I was to be able to date said girl.

For example, Tier 1 was just totally out of my league. These were the top 5 girls in each class that I just don't waste my time on, under no circumstances are these girls going to be in to me. They are often as tall as I am or taller as well.

Tier 2 was a lot like Tier 1 in the quality of girl. The difference in Tier 2 is there was like a 5% chance, if the stars aligned and if the girl really took the time to get to know me then she would be into me and we could date. Dating a Tier 2 girl was possible but not likely but I insisted that I would most definetly marry a Tier 2 girl and definetly did. This was probably why I did not get married until 24, it was not always easy to decide if a girl was Tier 2 or lower. Most girls I got close to were in Tier 2 territory.

Tier 3 are girls that are probably about as cute as I am. Remember, this was high school. I am sure I thought a lot more of myself than I should have.

Tier 4 was a lot like Tier 2 but the flip side. These were girls that were not drop dead gorgeous but were way cool and made me interested in them due to personality and style.

That was all I had in my journal except that I had names of girls from my high school and where they fit in the complicated tier system. Thank goodness I put important stuff like this in my journal you know. Nothing about my feelings on my family or spiritual things. Just things about my friends and girls.

Tuna Helper is better than it sounds

Last week my wife's aunt, uncle and their daughter, her cousin, stayed with us. The cousin is getting enrolled in school at Dixie State. They are from up north so she is "going away" to go to school. It reminded me of the good ole college years. She is a little nervous about being away from home and fending for herself as we all were.

We went to eat at Samurai 21 while they were here and it reminded me of the few opportunities to go out to eat with people when I was in college. I would often eat half my meal and take mine and everyone else's leftovers home. My eating schedule was not too good back then. Almost every day I would get a slice of bread with strawberry jam on it from Great Harvest for $1 from the GH shop on campus. Then I would not eat again until dinner. For dinner, a lot of times I would make a whole box of Tuna Helper and split it in two and eat half that night and half the next.

Another fun treat was getting a piece of bread and melting cheese on it in the microwave and eating it with a fork. I was not only unimaginative and bad at cooking but I was poor too.

When it was one of my roommate's birthdays we would go to a place called Kate's Kitchen in Logan. I assume KK is still there. It was like $12 or something a person but I think you got to eat as much as you want and it was like good home cooked type food. Whole chickens and mashed potatoes and gravy. Needless to say we would really go to work on those special occasions and the birthday person did not have to pay.

Is there a better time in life than right after high school? Right after we got married we lived above a house in an attic where you could only stand straight up if you were in the middle of the kitchen. In the bedroom or TV room it would slant down to like 4 feet or something. That was one of the best moments of my life in that apartment. Do I really need all this crap that I have accumulated? I should still be living in a shoebox eating Tuna Helper, I would be just as happy.
